Doughwell is built for anyone keeping a sourdough starter alive, from the first bubbly jar to a loaf with an open crumb. It logs feedings, tracks your starter’s rise, back-schedules a whole bake around your day, and keeps a journal of every loaf you bake.
The app works offline with no account, and your bakes stay on your device. Starter tracking, the bake journal and the proofing timer are always free, while Doughwell Pro adds retro-planning, the baker’s calculator, the recipe library with trial history, rise tracking, temperature and timing, iCloud sync and Home Screen widgets.

Work out hydration, levain, salt and desired dough temperature, and scale any recipe up or down.
Who it’s for
For anyone starting their first jar who wants clear guidance on feeding, growth and when a starter is ready to bake with.
For people who want warm bread on the table at a set time and let Doughwell back-schedule every step.
For those who want to save recipes in baker’s percentages and track how each trial turns out.
For bakers who maintain more than one starter and want a separate feeding history for each.
How it works
From “Log your starter’s feedings” to “Journal and refine”, in 5 steps.
Record each feeding to build a history of hydration, flour and growth for one or several starters.
Take photos as your starter climbs and let Doughwell mark the peak on a rise curve and time-lapse.
Tell Doughwell when you want bread ready, and it back-schedules bulk fermentation, shaping, proof and bake.
Follow notification-backed timers for each stage, so you can step away from the kitchen and still stay on schedule.
Photograph and rate each loaf, save it against its recipe, and refine your next bake from what worked.
In depth
Doughwell logs every feeding so you can see your starter’s rhythm, hydration, flour and growth over time in one place. Smart reminders tell you when it’s time to feed again, and you can run several starters at once, each with its own separate history.
When you photograph your starter as it rises, Doughwell marks the peak for you and shows the whole climb as a time-lapse alongside a clean rise curve, so you can catch the exact moment it’s ready to bake.
Instead of working forward from when you start, Doughwell works backward from when you want the bread ready. Tell it your target time and it back-schedules bulk fermentation, shaping, proof and bake to fit your kitchen and your day.
During the bake, live timers with notifications keep each stage on track, and the planning is temperature-aware, so you can see how a warmer or cooler kitchen speeds up or slows down fermentation.
Doughwell’s recipe library stores your recipes in baker’s percentages, with steps and timings, and every loaf you bake from a recipe links back as part of that recipe’s trial history. That makes it easy to see what worked and repeat your best bakes.
The bake journal is separate and always free: you photograph and rate every loaf and keep notes alongside the recipe, building a record of your baking you can look back on. The baker’s calculator sits alongside both, letting you work out hydration, levain, salt and desired dough temperature, and scale any recipe up or down.
